The
first church was built on this site in the 11th Century; a small Roman
Chapel that got its present look in 1640. According to legend, the
church was built at the spot where Saints Cyril and Methodius, the
Apostles of the Slavs, took a rest on their way to Rome. They were

This memorial was erected in 1989 in the village of Dovje along the
Jesenice - Kranjska Gora main road. For 38 years Dovje was the home of
the priest Jakob Aljaz (1845-1927)He has become a legend as he
had mountain huts built and paths laid out in the Vrata valley,
and on Kredarica. He also constructed a little metal turret on
the top of Triglav, which is named after him: Aljazev stolp. He was a
successful composer, singer and choirmaster. In the presbytery and in
the local museum in Mojstrana, separate rooms are dedicated to his
memory.

THE FORMER ŠMERC INN
A restored house with frescoes of St. Mary from Visaarje, St.
Florian and St. Michael). Its appearance reminds us of the vivid
past of the village of Mojstrana. The previous owner Smerc from Bavaria
made the first house out of wood. It used to be a part of a famous
tourist inn that was known for its hospitality, great service and good
reputation. Guests (mostly from Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Germany)
had the opportunity to hire mountain guides from here, for hikes into
theJulian Alps. One of the most famous guests was Julius Kugy from
Italy who wrote several books about our beautiful mountains. It was in
this inn where Baumbach wrote his well-known story about the mountain
goat (chamois) with golden horns.
AMBROŽIČ HOUSE
This house is interesting mainly because of the beehive plaques that
adorn its facade. This used to be the home of the famous Slovenian bee
keeper and founder of the Bee-fruit Association, Mihael Ambrozic.
In only three decades he exported more than 70,000 bee hives, mostly to Germany. He was awarded with 147 gold medals.
ŠPAN HOUSE
This
house is probably the oldest farm house in Mojstrana. It symbolises an
Agrarian Barocco style with different frescoes on it’s facade; sun dial
and ornaments, dated 1747.

POCAR FARM HOUSE
This
cultural building is one of the oldest and few remaining old farm
-houses in the Triglav National Park. The outbuilding has been
renovated for both museum and exhibition purposes. It displays farmers’
implements and typical long wooden carts, and also contains information
about the Triglav National Park. The equipment inside on display is
fully authentic. The ceiling beam is dated 1775, but the oldest
original farmhouse documents found, date back to the year 1609.
Information on opening time: TNP and in summer time at our TIC office.
PSNAK’S MILL AND SAW
The
saw and the mill are located 300 m away from the source of Radovna
River, under the Gogala house. The exact year when they were built is
not known, but they both operated ‘till the 70’s. They worked only
occasionally, when the water was high enough.
