Welcome in the world of Triglav fairytales!

Cerkev sv. Mihaela

You can see St Michael’s Church from wherever you are in the area, no matter from which direction you come to Dovje.

It was built at the beginning of the 14th century. The church has been renovated many times, and consequently the architectural styles are mixed. There are traces of the gothic style (a tabernacle), and then in 1829 it was renovated in the neo-renaissance style and the roof was covered by larch shingles. In the vestry, there is a beautiful fresco showing the Crucifixion. The age of the partially restored fresco is unknown.

The church is open during Mass; on Sundays at 8 a.m. and workdays at 6 p.m.

The graveyard around the church is attractively arranged, and you can find the graves of several mountaineers who died in the mountains.

Jakob Aljaž, a priest serving in this church for 38 years, is important for the history of the Slovenians. The monument to Jakob Aljaž is one of the sights of Dovje
